The “Europe Sustainable Development Report 2025” has been published. It highlights how European countries continue to lead in sustainable development, with 19 out of the top 20 spots globally. However, progress has slowed down, especially since 2020, and some regions, including Western and Northern Europe, have even seen slight declines.
The report identifies five major issues: rising inequalities in well-being and access to services, environmental and biodiversity challenges, negative global impacts from unsustainable consumption, slow progress in innovation and infrastructure, and setbacks in governance and partnerships.
