ESMA has published a Consultation Paper on the Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) provided under the ESG Rating Regulation.
The draft RTS cover three main areas for ESG rating providers: The information required in applications for authorisation and recognition;
Safeguards to mitigate conflicts of interest, especially for providers engaged in activities other than ESG rating; Transparency obligations, i.e., the information to be disclosed to the public, rated entities, and users of ESG ratings. ESMA plans to publish the Final Report and submit the final RTS to the European Commission for adoption in October 2025.
